Did you know that Iowa 4-H’ers produce over 17 million pounds of meat each year, which all goes into the American food supply?

Guthrie County Extension and Outreach Office will hold a Food Safety Quality Assurance training session today from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Community Building in Guthrie Center.  Guthrie County Extension 4-H Youth Coordinator Carolyn Wilson says this program is required for all 4th to 6th graders that plan to show beef, sheet, swine, goats, dairy rabbits or poultry at county, regional or state fairs.

Guthrie County Extension Program Director Mary Ebert says for those in grades 7 thru 9, you will have the option of attending a training every year, or completing a test which will certify you until you reach the 10th grade.  Youth in grades 10 to 12 will have the option of attending a training every year, or completing a test which will certify them until they turn 20 Ebert added.

If you plan to take the testing option, FSQA Testing will be held March 2 from 8:00 to 9:00 A.M. at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Community Building in Guthrie Center.
