Several years ago Guthrie Center’s Mary J. Barnett Library purchased a computer with Early Learning Station that came with a wide variety of educational programs.  Currently, preschoolers and kindergarten through second grade children are using this station that is filled with games and designed for teaching.

The Friends of the Mary J. Barnett Library will now apply for a matching grant so they can purchase an Early Elementary Literacy Station that is geared towards 3rd through 5th graders.  Library Director Pat Sleister explains this station will also come downloaded with a wide variety of educational programs that teach reading, math, science, music, and art.  Sleister says because the monitor has a touch screen making it interactive, not only will children enjoy playing games, they’ll be learning at the same time.  Sleister assures parents that since there is no Internet access at this station, it is safe and secure.  The program has a cost of approximately $3,000 and the library would appreciate any donations made to help them with the required matching funds.

For more questions, or to make a donation, stop by the library at 400 Grand Street in Guthrie Center or call Pat at 641-747-8110.
