The West Central Valley FFA Chapter members have been very busy the last couple of weeks. Six members competed in various speaking competitions in the sub-district leadership contest held March 4 at Colfax-Mingo.
Senior Stormy Baker received a first place gold rating in the job interview category by preparing a resume and cover letter for an equine therapy assistant. While at the contest, she filled out an application and completed an interview about her qualifications for this job. Baker’s rating advanced her to the district level.
Senior Rachel Subbert, completed in radio broadcasting in which she had 30 minutes to prepare a five-minute radio broadcast which included current agriculture news, weather, markets and her own written commercial. She also received a first place gold rating and advanced to district competition.
Freshman Hailey Gross also received a first class gold rating as she competed in the FFA Creed. She responded to three questions regarding her understanding of the Creed and its relation to agriculture. She joined her chapter members in advancing to district competition.
The Freshman team of Morgan Smith, Meagan Sullivan and Miranda Neal received a silver rating in the Greenhand quiz, which consisted of 50 questions testing contestants’ knowledge of the FFA organization.
FFA Advisor Jessica Herbert says the students had been preparing for two months for the competition.
Advancing to the district contest held March 9 at Earlham, Rachel received a sliver for her presentation in ag broadcasting. Stormy, who received a gold in job interview, and Hailey, who also received a gold in Creed speaking, will both advance to the State FFA Leadership Conference to be held April 21 through April 23.
