The 2013 high school track and field squads are practicing in preparation for the upcoming season. Chris Stimson is the coach of both the girls and boys teams at one of Iowa’s smallest school districts. The coach reports nine girls and nine boys are on the teams, the highest number in Stimson’s four seasons as the coach. He told Raccoon Valley Radio what he’s seen so far. “I’ve seen a group of kids that are pretty determined. They have a great work ethic and a lot of them want to go out each day and get better in practice. It’s been tough not being able to get outside as much as we’d like to, but we try to make the best out of it.”
The Rockets were weathered out of their scheduled season opener on March 25 in Jefferson at the Greene County Early Bird meet. The coach is hopeful weather conditions will improve for the next meet on their schedule next week.
