Thieves have been hard at work in northern Guthrie County, as the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Department has investigated numerous break-ins during the month of March.

Two homes in Jamaica were hit in the first half of the month.  Sometime after March 5, a residence was entered with tools, antiques and hunting equipment stolen.  Another Jamaica residence was entered on March 16 with a gun being reported missing.

On March 20, it was reported that a side door was broken at the former Bagley Protein Plant and $2,000 worth of heavy equipment, tools and other items were stolen.

During the night of March 27-28, a door on the southeast side of McAllister Parts and Equipment, just west of Bayard, was pried open with tools and money reported being taken. Another shed on the property was broken into with batteries stolen from it.

Sometime in mid-March, a machine shed just north of Bagley in Greene County was entered with numerous antiques removed.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright urges people to keep their eyes open and if they see any suspicious vehicles or people acting in an unusual manner to call 641-747-2241 so an investigation can be made.

Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert agreed.  If you have a building on an unattended farmstead, it’s not a matter of if it will be broken into.  It’s a matter of when.  Sheriff Haupert warns the public that these thieves are professionals and they look for buildings that are not checked daily.
