Monday we celebrate Memorial Day, a day dedicated to honor and commemorate the brave men and women who lost their lives fighting in the U.S. military.
There are several celebrations planned throughout the Raccoon River Valley area.
Among them is a service at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, on the corner of 7th and Batemen in Perry. VFW Post 2060 will conduct a service at 10am Monday and will be followed by light refreshments and fellowship.
The Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter also has a service planned. The event will include posting of colors, the national anthem, pledge, commanding general Arlan DeBlieck, a laying of the wreath and music. It begins at 8am at the cemetery.
Both events are open to the public.
