Iowa has had major flooding several times in the past few decades and some wonder if this year will be added to that list.

Dallas County Engineer Jim George says so far, this spring is comparable to past flooding seasons.

“This to us seems maybe quite a little bit like ’93 in that it wasn’t a single event, but rather a lot of smaller events that just keep piggy backing on each other and building and causing problems as time goes on.   We’ve kind of been in a pattern in the last two weeks where we’ve gotten some pretty substantial rainfall.  We’re not Marshalltown where they get five inches in one shot but these in and a half are adding up and causing concern” says George.

This year is quite different from last year when much of the state was experiencing drought conditions and George says both extremes cause issues for road departments.

Fortunately, George says this year there are not a lot of construction projects planned for this summer so crews are not behind due to the weather.
