Greene County broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the seventh inning en route to a 5-0 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victory in Collins on Monday night against Collins-Maxwell-Baxter. The Rams improved to 3-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall after being the visiting team in six of their first seven games. CMB fell to 0-3 in the conference.
Senior Jennifer Kennedy threw a two-hit shut out against the Raiders while striking out seven and walking three. Six of the eight Greene County hits came in the decisive seventh inning when the Rams sent 11 batters to the plate. Infield singles by Emma Saddoris and Kayla Mobley started the rally, followed by a walk to Tressa Rasmussen. Hannah Onken had a run-scoring single and Kennedy drove in a run with an infield hit. Mady Adamson walked and Emily Christensen and Marissa Promes followed with base hits. The Raiders also had the only two errors of the game in the seventh inning.
Greene County is scheduled to host Perry tonight in non-conference play. Shawn Kenney will have the call on KDLS 1310 AM at 7:15 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
