The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in it regular weekly session.

During the open forum, representatives with Jefferson’s VFW chapter talked to the Board about the Freedom Rock campaign.  A local artist from Greenfield is wanting to paint a morale on a rock in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.  In order to get Greene County’s name on the list, the VFW had to pay $1,000.  The Board decided that they should talk with the county conservation office to make a decision on location and allocating funds for the possible project.

The Supervisors then heard a City of Jefferson update with City Administrator Mike Palmer.  He told the Board that all trash cans have been installed around the square.  He also reported that he and other members of the county went out to the municipal airport for possibly locations for the animal shelter to be relocated to.

The Board approved a 28E agreement with Cerro Gordo County to continue to be a part of the Iowa Precinct Atlas Consortium.  They also approved the recorder’s report of fees for May of $4,749.58.

County Engineer Wade Weiss reported to the Supervisors that he was going to get estimates for the 168 sites that were damaged in the May 30th floods to present to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for relief funding.  He said that in 2008, the county received almost $900,000 in FEMA money.
