The Iowa Farm Bureau is hosting their 50th annual cookout contest again this year at the Iowa State Fair and local residents are encouraged to show off their skills.
Though the championship doesn’t happen until August, the pursuit begins this month when county Farm Bureaus host their local contests.
Grillers from across the state compete in several different categories before finalists are chosen to compete in Des Moines on August 13th.
Categories include beef, pork, lamb, poultry, turkey and combo or specialty. Dishes are judged on taste, appearance and originality.
The Dallas County contest will take place July 13th at the fairgrounds in Adel and the Guthrie County contest is July 17th at the Farm Bureau Office.
