Around 11am on Sunday, Jefferson Police Chief Dave Morlan says a passerby noticed a man was bleeding from his head on the 100 block of East Russell Street. Upon the officer’s and the Greene County Medical Service’s arrival, the male subject had left the scene on his motorized scooter.
Chief Morlan states that James Cunningham, 38 of Boone had dropped off his scooter at 500 North Vine Street and was found walking to Russell Park at 100 East Russell Street.
Officer Heath Enns conducted a field sobriety test, which the male subject failed and then became uncooperative. Chief Morlan says officer Enns told the suspect that if he didn’t comply, that he would be forced to use his taser. At which point, the suspect was later arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Chief Morlan points out that Cunningham has lost control of his scooters and had minor scrapes on his face.
Chief Morlan comments that Cunningham was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence a serious misdemeanor for an assault on a peace officer, a simple misdemeanor for interference with official acts, public intoxication and driving with a suspended license.
Cunningham remains in jail.
