The busiest week of the high school baseball season for the Greene County Rams has Coach Mark Sawhill’s team facing Class 2A seventh ranked Kuemper Catholic at 9 a.m. Saturday in the opening game of Kuemper’s tournament in Carroll. Colfax-Mingo downed the Rams 11-5 on Friday night in Jefferson to drop Greene County to 7-11 overall and 3-8 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action. The loss was the fourth straight for the Rams.

Sophomores Colton Fitzpatrick and Jake Carey pitched on Friday night, the Rams sixth game in five days. Fitzpatrick took the loss after starting and giving up five runs, all earned, in 2-2/3 innings. Carey allowed six runs, four earned, in 4-1/3 innings of relief. Greene County out hit the Tigerhawks nine to six, but 11 walks were an issue. The Rams had two errors while C-M had six miscues.

Senior Tory Beger had a double and two singles vs. C-M and Carey singled twice. Sophomore Riah Nelsen doubled with singles by senior Reed Ostrander, junior T. J. Lint, and sophomore Alex Rasmussen. Beger, Carey, and Rasmussen each knocked in a run.

The game was stopped for some time after an outfield collision injured a C-M player. The outfielder was taken by ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

If the Rams win vs. Kuemper Catholic they play at 5 p.m. today. A first round loss means a consolation game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
