photo (39)The Perry Community School District Board of Education held their monthly and annual meetings last night.

At the meeting Steve Bennett from Construction Services Incorporated gave an update on facility projects and progress.  The middle school gymnasium project is expected to cost a total of $225,000.  The high school chiller project bids came in at $91,700.  The majority of the heat pump replacement at the elementary school will need to wait until the next fiscal year because there’s not enough time to finish the project before school starts in the fall.

Next there was a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports presentation by the co-coaches.  The board was given an update on what has been accomplished over the past year as the PBIS team planned to set up this program.

The board then approved plans, specifications and bids for the above mentioned facility upgrades at a total cost of around $400,000.  Business manager Kent Bultman was again appointed the board secretary and Dwayne Hochalter as board treasurer at a 4% salary increase to $1,404 annually.

Board members then appointed Drew Bracken as the district’s legal counsel, Raccoon Valley Bank as the district’s bank depository with three others as supplemental banks.  Student abuse by school employee investigators were then appointed, along with the district’s equity and equal opportunity and affirmative action officers, an ADA coordinator and homeless coordinator.

Next the board set legislative priorities for the upcoming school year and legislative session including preserving the integrity of the statewide penny, funding to ensure all 4 year-olds have access to pre-school and setting allowable growth at a rate that is adequate for school district operation.

An overnight, out of state trip to San Francisco was also approved, allowing five students to attend the annual Gear Up Youth Congress July 14-18th.  Board policy revisions, the debt management policy and CADRE list were then approved as well.

Following the regular meeting, the board meet in closed session for the annual Superintendent evaluation.

We’ll have more on last night’s meeting and things happening in the Perry Public School District on tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Dallas County when we speak with Superintendent Lynn Ubben on AM 1310 KDLS during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
