The Greene County Development Corporation Board met yesterday.

The Board heard a few updates from president Norm Fandel.  He reported that the land north on Highway 4 in Jefferson will be sold to Kingdom Hall.  He talks about the details of the project.

“In the last six weeks, we’ve been in the process of removing the billboard sign, so that it’s not in the middle of the driveway.  The billboard is now torn down, along with the smaller billboard on the west side of Highway 4.  And we’re just waiting now on closing the deal with Kingdom Hall, so they can start building a new facility out there.”

Kingdom Hall would pay about $20,000 for the property from GCDC and that money would go back into their general fund adds Fandel.

Fandel requests anyone wanting to go on the last bus trip to Emmetsburg to tour the casino and area businesses to call him at 370-0992 to sign up for a free seat.

Chamber Executive Director Ken Paxton updated the Board on a few different projects.  He said that there will be an open public meeting at the Sierra Theatre in Jefferson in August with Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz.  During his site selector’s conference in June in Minnesota, Paxton reported that a few companies showed interest in coming to Jefferson for their world-known businesses to grow the economy of the county.

Chamber Consultant Chris Henning stated that the chamber gave $1,800 to different young people at the premium auction on Monday at the county fair.  She also told the Board that they received a grant for a community kitchen incubator for anyone in the community to use to prepare meals with.

Chad Schreck with Midwest Partnership said that discussions are going well with the City of Scranton, Scranton Manufacturing and the county supervisors at figuring out projects to help prevent flooding issues and how best to make future expansion plans to keep preventative measures in mind.

The GCDC Board meets the second Tuesday every month.
