According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, about 1pm on Friday, Leroy Mckinney, Jr. was found in his cell in the Dallas County jail unresponsive.

Dallas County law enforcement authorities say that all attempts to revive Mckinney were unsuccessful.  He was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny to conduct an autopsy later today.

Dallas County Sheriff’s office reports that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted in the incident and is continuing the investigation.  However, at this time, authorities have ruled out any foul play.

Iowa courts online show Mckinney was arrested for an alleged first degree theft charge, which is a Class C felony, on June 7th and was still awaiting trial.
