Over half the state of Iowa is now classified as abnormally dry, including the Raccoon River Valley.
That’s according to the latest drought monitor from the National Climatic Data Center.
According to the National Weather Service, Perry typically sees just under 4.5 inches of rain in July and so far we’ve received 2.2 inches – most of it falling during the storm Monday evening.
Jefferson and Guthrie Center both receive more than 4.5 inches in July and so far they’ve received 0.36 and 0.5 an inch respectively.
This time last year, Dallas Greene and Guthrie Counties were all experiencing a severe drought.
