Greene County ExtensionA farm leasing workshop will be held at the Greene County Extension office in Jefferson on Thursday, August 1st.

Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says the topics that will be covered are updated land value and cash rental rate surveys, different farm leasing options, writing and terminating a farm lease, estimated crop costs in the coming year and where to find other farm leasing information from different sources.

Cooley explains an important aspect for those that may have inherited a farm but don’t know what to do with it.

“Most important to some of those kids that maybe just taken over mom or dad’s farm and they’re looking for someone to lease it or they’re looking to continue a lease (and) sometimes that is the best time to say ‘ya know what, before we renew this lease, we just really want to step back (and) talk about it and determine the best arrangement possible’”.

ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist Shane Ellis will facilitate to the program.

Cooley points out that pre-registrations are still being accepted with a $20 fee which includes a workbook.  The workshop is from 1-3:30pm at the extension office meeting room on Thursday, August 1st.  The deadline to pre-register without a $5 late fee is by 4:30pm on Wednesday.
