Schools across the state will start up in just a few short weeks, which means it’s time for parents and students to stock up for the upcoming year.

This weekend is expected to be a busy one as Iowans don’t have to pay sales tax on clothing and shoes today and tomorrow.

Perry Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Wilson says tax free weekend shouldn’t be your only reason to shop local but it should incentivize you to save even more money by not having to travel out of town.

He says there are many local businesses that offer clothing and footwear and as always, you will see a better return into the community if you purchase goods locally.

The tax break only applies to clothing and shoes under $100 per item, though there is no limit to the amount of items purchased tax free.
