Official football practice for Iowa High School doesn’t begin until August 12, but Greene County begins its three-day football camp today for youngsters in grades 7-12. Head coach Dean Lansman and his coaching staff will conduct the camp from 8-11 a.m. today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Players will be in t-shirts and shorts and will be working on the fundamentals of the game.
The Rams open the high school season with a ninth/varsity doubleheader at Dewey Field in Perry on Friday, August 30 in the annual Battle of the Cowbell. Perry won the game last year at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
Something new added by the Iowa High School Athletic Association this year is a scrimmage between two schools. The Rams will travel to Panora to scrimmage Panorama on Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m. The varsity teams will scrimmage the first two quarters with the ninth and JV teams scrimmaging the final two periods.
