With the reorganization for Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene School Districts to combine into one district for the 2014-15 school year, changes are already being made to reflect the new district’s name.
Recently, the two districts received a new banner for the music department with the new name of Greene County Community School on it.
Middle school music instructor Marty Brenden says that a grant was received by the Jefferson Rotary Club to pay for the $815 banner. He explains why they wanted to have a new banner made before the two districts combine next year.
“We just felt that since the districts were going together, one of the most important things is for the kids to have their symbols identifying the district is very visible. While it was very exciting receiving the donation, I was called to the meeting and didn’t know if we would have part of it paid for or all of it, but it ended up being the entire banner so I was really pleased with that.”
Brenden states that the new banner looks like the previous one except for the name change from Jefferson-Scranton to Greene County.
The banner will be shared by both the middle and high school bands.
