The Perry football team is getting set to wrap up their first official week of practice today and positions are starting to take shape after the initial week.  Perry finished 3-6 a season ago and 1-5 in 3A District 1 play.

“We are excited like we always are this time of the year, commented Perry Head Coach Jason Olenjzack.  “We are a confident team and we expect to be in the playoffs.  We have a lot of talent coming back especially in the skill positions but we need to find some lineman.  Our big guys have to step up and perform.  With our depth at the skill set, if we find lineman this could be a good year.”

Perry begins district play September 13th with a home game against Harlan.  District 1 has traditionally been a juggernaut for southwest Iowa and Olenjzack knows that it will be competitive again.  “I’m not saying it’s going to be an easy district, but it is a district that took a serious hit to graduation.  These are all football programs so they will reload but the talent loss was huge.  I feel we could have a good season and what I mean by good season is getting more wins than we did last year.”
