There were two fires in Greene County over the weekend.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says on Friday around 9:52pm, a deputy and Scranton Fire and Rescue responded to a barn fire at the 700 block of 240th Street.  He explains that the owner of the barn was burning trash and embers had blown onto the roof causing it to catch fire.

Scranton firefighters extinguished the flames and no one was injured.  There was minor damage to the roof.

Then on Saturday around 7:35am, Sheriff Haupert reports that a 2004 Chevrolet Impala was driven by Kevin Dean McGee of Farnhamville lost control and entered the ditch just north of 140th Street and Q Avenue.

McGee said in the report that he waited until it was lighter outside before trying to remove his vehicle from the ditch.  As he was doing so, his tires spun on the dry grass, catching the Impala on fire.

The Paton Fire Department put out the fire and McGee wasn’t injured.  The vehicle is a total loss.

Sheriff Haupert wants to remind everyone that with the very dry conditions, people need to be aware of items suddenly catching on fire.
