stuart cityRoad construction at the intersection of Division Street and Front Street in Stuart is nearly complete.

South Division Street between South 2nd Street and Front Street in Stuart has been closed all week so that construction crews can fix a water main that was in need of repair.  A 10” water valve that was being used as a water shut off had been deemed worthless due to the inconvenience of its location.

Water was off for several area businesses during the construction, but has since been turned back on.

Concrete was poured yesterday to fill in the excavated hole that allowed for access to the water main.  Rather than continuing to replace the patch with asphalt pads, the crew hopes that the laying of concrete will allow for better road durability.  The main intersection is often frequented by semis moving through town.

If the concrete pour goes smoothly, the intersection should be re-opened later today.

There is a marked road detour established to help any travelers driving through Stuart in the event the intersection remains closed.
