It won’t just be your typical bevy of delicious fruits and vegetables at the Stuart Farmer’s Market this evening.  There is a special giveaway involved with tonight’s festivities.

The Adair County Medical Clinic will be serving free watermelon from 5 to 6 p.m. to interact with local residents.  Farmer’s Market Coordinator Sue Ruden says the clinic’s Foundation got in touch with her about possible involvement.

There will be another special event coming to the market on September 18.  The Raccoon River Band Duo of Janet Snell and Ron Dupuy will play from 5 to 6:30 to entertain any market visitors.  Snell and Dupuy most recently played at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Despite the recent dry conditions, Ruden says the event has been popular the past couple months.

“Ohh, we’ve just got all kinds of fruits and vegetables, large crowds and people are really coming out for the event.  We had a slow start this season, but once the vegetables came on people really started coming out.”

The Stuart Farmer’s Market takes place every Wednesday at Lawbaugh Park from 4:30 to 6:30 in the evening.  This year’s farmer’s market season will run through the end of October.
