The third annual Greene County swap meet will be this weekend.

Organizer Gary Schiltz says every year the event has grown.  The first year they started with just car parts and crafts at the county fairgrounds and last year they added a hillbilly aspect with it to include animals like ducks and chickens.

This year, Schiltz adds, they will put on a consignment auction so people can sell their farm equipment or other big vehicle-type items like that along with a car corral where anyone can bring their old vehicles and try to sell them.

He explains how the swap meet got it’s start.

“Well, a good friend of mine does the swap meet down in Greenfield.  And I’ve been going down there for over 20 years and I never have seen it all because it’s so big.  Three years ago I thought I wonder why I couldn’t start something like that here and so I did and we’re just in the building stages.”

There will also be food vendors and other vehicles on display.

Schiltz notes that people can still sell their items at the swap meet by registering at the door for $30.  The swap meet will be at the county fairgrounds in Jefferson on Friday from noon-7pm and Saturday from 8am-5pm with the consignment auction to begin at 10am.
