guthrie county fairIt has been a busy month for Guthrie County Fair Board President C.W. Thomas.

He just returned to Guthrie Center after being down in Des Moines to help run operations at the Iowa State Fair.  Thomas represents the southwest portion of the state as a member of the State Fair’s Board of Directors.

Despite his quick turnaround between fairs, Thomas is excited for the five-day Guthrie County Fair that starts this coming Thursday.  He says much of the praise for the fair’s preparation should go to the rest of the Fair Board.

“We’ve got a great team, got a lot of good directors that know what needs to be done.  They just keep the things rolling.  We correspond pretty regularly with cell phones and keep all things on track.  So I think we’ve got a wail of a lineup.”

This year marks the 155th Guthrie County Fair, and the schedule is loaded with a variety of events.  For details on what you can expect to see over Labor Day Weekend, click on the link at the bottom of this page.

Thomas has been on the Guthrie County Fair Board since 1990, and says he has many favorite parts about the fair, but one thing in particular stands out.

“I like to see the kids having a good time.   The fair is a tradition and as long as you get them started coming when they’re young, they get a tradition going and it’s just a must-see adventure as the go up through their lives.”

Thomas adds that he appreciates the community’s support for the fair each year, and he looks forward to seeing everybody at the fairgrounds starting on Thursday.
