It’s another big weekend in Perry as thousands will look to the sky for Fly Iowa.
Chuck McDonald is the executive director of the Iowa Aviation Promotions Group who started the annual Fly Iowa event. He says it’s a chance to shine light on the importance of aviation and airports across the state.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase the airport and its importance to the community and the economic development of the community and to have people out to have a positive experience and a lot of fun seeing fun things in aviation” says McDonald.
Bill Shimon is a local pilot and part of the Perry Airport Commission. He says Fly Iowa is a world class event and encourages people from all walks of life to check it out.
“Anyone, every one should come out. The airshow is free and you can’t beat a free show that’s going to be just captivating and dazzling with the acrobatics that these guys are going to perform for us” says Shimon.
Tomorrow’s festivities kick off at 7am with a Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast at the airport from 7-10am. Attendees can then check out the aviation exhibits, displays, vendors and meet the pilots before the free air show from 1-3pm.
Free parking will be available at the airport and you’re encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating. The event is open to all ages, though pets and smoking will not be allowed for safety reasons.
