The Greene County Development Corporation Business Park #1 is nearly complete with its ground development.

Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer says the City of Jefferson developed the 21 acres of land just south of Syngenta on Highway 4 to allow for potential businesses to build or expand there.

Currently, Sandstone Management has installed water mains and a storm sewer system along with a retention pond for excess stormwater runoff that will have normally 8-10 feet of water in it.

Palmer notes that the site’s construction started when final approval of Cobblestone Hotels wanted to expand its business to it, but those plans had to be put on hold until the casino issue is finalized through the Iowa Racing and Gaming Board.

He states that the site is for businesses to locate to and there’s no plans for Wild Casino Entertainment to use the business park for its location of a casino and entertainment facility.

The City of Jefferson has spent $225,000 in available tax increment financing funds and has completed about 90% of the payment during the 8-month project.
