A road project that was started by the Iowa Department of Transportation last week in Greene County finished on yesterday on US Highway 30.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says DOT crews have been trying to stretch the life span of the existing concrete on Highway 30 by cutting into the pavement and filling in cracks with tar material.
He states that there are cracks in the concrete that aren’t visible as you drive by and so the DOT takes a router machine and follows the crack in random patterns and fills it in with tar to prevent water or ice from deteriorating the pavement any further. Then they put white plastic material over the top so that motorists don’t get excess tar in their vehicles.
Iowa DOT officials said that all road construction projects on Highway 30 in Greene County are completed for the year. The last part was between Highway 4 in Jefferson and Highway 144 in Grand Junction.
Officials stated that a future project for next year will be bridge work on Highway 30 just west of Highway 169 between Beaver and Ogden.
