The Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.
The Council approved several agenda items including the second readings to change the zoning classification for 201 East Perry Street from residential to light industrial, vacating the alley north of the intersection of McKinley and Locust streets and deleting the temporary discontinuance of solid waste collection from the City’s Code.
The Council also approved the $6,200 project to have McConnell Construction install a concrete concession stand area at the swimming pool and a $5,900 project to replace four winches, cable and auto lock system on four basketball hoops at the Greene County Community Center.
The Council has approved a reference to the Planning and Zoning Commission to allow hotel/motel to be included in permits for Light Industrial District so that when Wild Rose Entertainment makes its initial presentation to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Board that it will show they are in compliance with the City’s zoning code.
The Council also set September 24th as the priority budget workshop meeting.
During committee reports, Mayor Craig Berry said that the City will be working with some Greene County High School teachers and students to replicate, on a smaller scale, the entry sign on the north end of Highway 4 be placed on the south end of the City.
The Council gave the permission to go ahead look into having a housing committee formed so that the City could take advantage of foreclosed houses in town and rehab them like they did with the Neighborhood Stabilization Program was available.
Councilwoman Lisa Jaskey reported that in the streets/sewer/water/sanitation committee meeting, it was mentioned that as long as there was a four-foot path on the sidewalk available around the downtown square, businesses could only have a certain type of table and chairs outside of their storefronts.
