This weather is hot for all of us, but we need to make sure we don’t forget about the affects it has on our furry friends too.
Abby Benefiel with the Perry Humane Society says there are recommendations for the amount of water we give our pets on mild days and it only increases when the weather is this warm.
“In moderate weather, that would be just comfortable walking around 70 to 75 degree weather, even then a cat or a dog needs an ounce of water per pound” says Benefiel.
Benefiel says you can also make pet friendly popsicles to encourage them to stay hydrated.
“Put some dog treats in an ice tray, freeze them in there and just let them take them out in the yard and give them doggie popsicles. I think cats would probably do the same thing” adds Benefiel.
Of course it’s also important to make sure your pets have shade if they must be outside and don’t leave them in a parked vehicle because it can be deadly within minutes.
