As we continue with one of the hottest August weeks on record, the easiest way to stay cool is by keeping inside with the air conditioning running.
But not everybody has the luxury of having an AC unit in their home or at their workplace.
There are still ways to stay cool though, and Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf has a suggestion.
“One thing that can be is if you’re at home and you don’t have air conditioning but you have a fan, is taking a two liter bottle, filling it with water, putting it in the freezer; let it freeze. Set it in front of the fan and as the fan is blowing it will actually cool the air that moves around in the room that you’re in.”
During this week of record temperatures, it is good to know the symptoms of heat exhaustion, which are weakness, lack of sweat from dehydration, rapid heart rate, rapid breath and dizziness. Kempf says that if you start to recognize such symptoms, get to a cool area as soon as possible. If symptoms don’t subside, contact EMS and get yourself to a local hospital.
