The drought conditions keep getting worse across much of Iowa and this week’s hot and dry weather sure isn’t helping.
Typically the Raccoon River Valley area receives around 4 inches of rain during the month of August. This year, Perry has only received 1.13 inches, Guthrie Center has seen just over half an inch and only a trace amount of rain has fallen in Jefferson.
According to the National Climatic Data Center, the drought conditions went from moderate from severe this week for much of central and east-central Iowa.
The last time any measurable precipitation was recorded in the area was August 15th when Guthrie Center received more than half an inch of rain but only one-hundredth of an inch fell in Perry and Jefferson.
There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms across the area tomorrow night.
