One of the main attractions for Greene County saw an increase in people taking advantage of the Mahanay Bell Tower.
The Greene County Chamber is reporting that about 2,387 people visited the Bell Tower from January 1st through Labor Day which generated about $7,000. During that same time period last year, there was only 2,020 people which resulted in $4,041.
Executive Director Ken Paxton attributes the growth in numbers to a few different changes. The Bell Tower was open during Tuesday night farmer’s markets which it was open last year for the market too, but it was constantly moved around due to the downtown area construction. So, to have the market in a consistent location was a plus.
Another big improvement was the addition of two air conditioning units. One was placed on the observation deck and the other is located at the entrance on the plaza. Those were installed at the beginning of the summer.
Paxton is happy with the growing number of people coming to Jefferson to take advantage of a one-of-a-kind structure in the state.
