Various city council elections isn’t until November, but the nomination deadline is tomorrow.
For the City of Jefferson, there are three seats available in districts one and three and one “at-large” up for election. Current members Larry Teeples of district 1 and Bill Figenshaw of district 3 have served on the Council 20 consecutive years while the at-large seat with Gary Von Ahsen has served for about five years, but began his tenure as an appointment.
City Clerk Diane Kennedy says that a total of 25 signatures are needed to officially get your name on the ballot and nomination papers have been available since August 26th.
Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins says each of the six towns in the county have the mayor’s seat up for election because it is a two-year and Jefferson’s mayor’s term is four years.
There are two city council seats available in Churdan, Paton, Rippey, Scranton and three seats in Grand Junction and one seat in Dana.
Anyone is encouraged to run and must turn in their nomination papers to the town’s council they are running for by 5pm tomorrow. Once nomination papers are turned into the city clerks, Hoskins adds, they have until 5pm on Friday to turn those into the county auditor’s office.
