The deadline to file for City Council or Mayoral candidacy in the upcoming November elections is tomorrow for all the towns in Guthrie County.
In Panora, three seats on the City Council will be up for election. Mark Vogel, Steve Pote and Mike Moore all have come to an end of their terms, and City Administrator Lisa Grossman says Moore is the only Council member of the three planning on running for re-election.
Over in Guthrie Center, there are two council seats with terms ending, as is the Mayoral seat. Dennis Patrick and Bob Paterson have not yet filed papers to run for re-election in their Council seats according to City Administrator Laura Imerman. However, Denny Kunkle says he will run for reelection to keep his position as mayor.
Finally, in Stuart, the Mayoral seat and three Council seats have terms ending. City Administrator Ashraf Ashour says Council members Brian Belden, Matt Funk and Neal Crawford have all filed candidacy to run for reelection in their seats. Ashour says Dick Cook has also filed papers to run for reelection as mayor.
Anyone interested in running for a City Council position in Panora, Guthrie Center or Stuart can do so by handing in two forms with the City Administrator’s Office in each respective town. A state of Iowa nomination petition and affidavit of candidacy must be completed and filed by 5 o’clock tomorrow evening.
Both forms can be found on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website by visiting sos.iowa.gov.
