perry signThe City of Perry hopes to move forward on another Brownfield program in the near future.

The City Council approved a redevelopment program Community Assistance Grant contract and scope of services agreement at their last meeting.  City Administrator Butch Niebuhr explains the project.

“This is a piece of property that came to us through a bankruptcy court.  It has an old petroleum bulk station on it.  We did a phase one through our Brownfield, the work that we did six or seven years ago, but that phase one is probably past its prime” says Niebuhr.

Niebuhr says the city is working with their Brownfield consultant and the Department of Natural Resources to come up with an estimate for the project and hopes are that it won’t cost the city anything.

“Although the city doesn’t own the property yet, we’re looking forward that if we do get possession of the property, we need to get this phase one done before we can maybe access funds to do the clean up and demo that building and do the clean up.  So right now it looks like we’ll be eligible for the amount of money to do phase one and eligible from the DNR to get a grant to pay for that.”

The city should find out about the grant in the coming weeks.
