The girls Class 2A State Qualifying Meet race was especially good for runners from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area at the Lake Panorama par 3 golf course on Thursday. Panorama (Panora) won the team title with Greene County (Jefferson) second. Those two, plus third place finisher North Polk (Alleman) all advance to the Nov. 2 State Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.

Greene County senior Allison Higgins was the girls’ individual champion, covering the four kilometers (2.48 miles) in 15 minutes, 45 seconds. Hannah Appleseth of Panorama was third in 16:17 and the Panthers’ Karlee Johnk was tenth in 16:49. Shelby Hunemiller of West Central Valley (Stuart) was eighth in 16:46. The top 10 individuals are State qualifiers. Higgins becomes the first individual from a Jefferson-based program to win a State qualifying race since Amy Luft was a District champion in the fall of 1993 at Creston.

The other three Panorama point scorers and their places were Meredith Olson (13th), , Maggie Smith (15th), and KC Jafkjen (28th). The other four Rams scoring team points were Emily Christensen (17th), Eme Johnson (18th), Olivia Hansen (22nd), and Noelle Gray (34th).

The other girls’ team from the Raccoon Valley Radio area was West Central Valley in fourth place. There were 12 schools with enough girls to qualify for a team score.

Hunter Simmons of Panorama was the lone boy from the Raccoon Valley Radio area to qualify for State. He was tenth in the boys’ 10 kilometers (3.1 miles) race in 10:04. Colton Dorpinghaus of Albia was the boys’ winner in 16:56.

North Polk won the boys’ team title with Albia second and Shenandoah third. Panorama was fourth with Woodward Academy seventh, Greene County eighth, and West Central Valley 10th among 15 teams.
