Greene County ExtensionToday is the last day for early bird registration for the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Expo in Jefferson scheduled for Saturday.

Following the main workshop from 9am-3pm at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center will be a showcase for all the small businesses and entrepreneurships in Greene County.  Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says its a time for businesses to show off their assets and let people know what they are doing and how they are enhancing their businesses.

Greene County Chamber and Development Executive Director Ken Paxton says the county is filled with “start-up” companies and the key to any successful community base are local area retailers and manufacturers.

“The lifeblood of any community is small business.  If there aren’t entrepreneurs and smaller people who want to start businesses, we’re going to dry up.  And we’ve tried to be pretty aggressive about that.”

One other way Paxton notes that they strive to help with small businesses is with revolving loans and other business-type loans through Region XII Council of Governments in Carroll.  He points out that anyone who has questions about getting started with their business can call the chamber at 386-2155.
