domestic violenceOctober is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert wants to remind everyone that just because lots of us live in smaller communities doesn’t mean that domestic violence doesn’t exist.

He states that one in four women and one in seven men in Iowa suffer serious physical violence from their partner at least once in their lifetime.  Sheriff Haupert stresses that there’s been a significant drop in domestic violence cases over the years in the county with better training in law enforcement and more resources being used.

He recognizes the need for people who need help and suggests places and organizations like Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support have people who are experienced with options available to you to make a change as they serve the county.

Sheriff Haupert wants you to know that you’re not alone and if you need help, contact your county Sheriff’s Office, local police department or clergy to get the support you need.
