It won’t be just another game when the Greene County Rams meet the OABCIG Falcons in Class 2A District 8 football on Friday night in Ida Grove. Playoff berths will be on the line not only for these two teams, but for squads around the state. Some teams already have a berth in the postseason on Oct. 30 locked up, but for many, including the Rams and Falcons, their postseason hopes come down to the final night of the regular season.
Greene County and OABCIG are 4-4 overall, but the Rams are 3-2 in the district while the Falcons are 2-3. A win by the Rams means a playoff berth and very likely the number two seed in the district, which translates into a home game for the first round of the playoffs. A win by OABCIG means the Rams could still get into the postseason with the three or four seed, or they could be left out if they finish fifth in the seven team district. Red Oak and Shenandoah also have postseason aspirations and they meet each other on Friday night in Shenandoah. Undefeated Kuemper Catholic and Clarinda are already assured two of the district’s four spots in the postseason. If Greene County wins in Ida Grove and if Kuemper Catholic defeats Clarinda, the Rams would finish second in the district.
Coverage tomorrow night on KG98 begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m. on KG98.
