volleyballTonight is the ADM volleyball team’s big regional final match against the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks, a team that the Tigers have yet to face this season.

Waverly-Shell Rock enters tonight’s contest as the 4th-ranked team in Class 4-A and the top seed in Region 4.  The Go-Hawks easily disposed of the Ballard Bombers last Thursday in their regional semifinal, sweeping three games to love by scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-11 respectively.

Waverly-Shell Rock is led by junior outside hitter Elena Gray, who has the 5th-most kills in the state.  The six-footer will be a tall task for the Tigers to try and stop, as head coach Mary Beth Scott says ADM’s biggest key tonight will be finding a way to disrupt the Go-Hawks potent offensive lineup.

“If we can make sure that we can get some touches on the blocks… if we can try to frustrate their hitters, that’s certainly (the key).  I mean we’re a pretty tenacious team and we had some long rallies against Newton and I would say ¾ of those rallies went in our direction.  So we need to keep plugging away with that and trying to wear people down.”

While the pundits would deem the Go-Hawks to be the heavy favorite tonight, Scott says it wouldn’t be smart to count out her Tigers.  They’ve left it all out on the floor all season long, and Scott says that will undoubtedly be the case again tonight.

“That’s how we’ve been approaching each match is, ‘we’re going to get out there, we’re going to play our best and whatever the outcome is, we want to just say that we played great volleyball’, and that’s our goal.  We’re playing good teams, and so there is nothing to be ashamed of if things don’t go our way.  We certainly want to win and that’s our number one goal but we just want to make sure we’re playing our best volleyball.”

Tonight’s regional final in Webster City begins at 7pm, with pregame coverage starting on 107.9FM, KKRF at 6:45.
