There are new City Council members in towns throughout Guthrie County following Tuesday’s elections, and we have calculations regarding the number of voters who turned out to put the newly elected officials in those seats.
According to numbers from the Guthrie County Auditor’s Office, less than half of registered voters, 41% to be exact, went to the polls to cast ballots Tuesday in the eight incorporated towns of the county. 1,301 votes were cast out of 3,144 registered voters eligible in those eight towns.
Bayard was the city with the highest voter turnout in Guthrie County, with 78% of registered voters casting ballots. On the other side of things, Panora had the lowest voter turnout, as just 21% of registered voters reported to the polls. Panora did, however, have just three candidates running for the three open council seats.
The City of Stuart had a lower voter turnout in its city election than any of the towns in Guthrie County. According to numbers released by the Adair County Auditor’s Office, just over 7% of registered Stuart voters cast ballots on Tuesday.
