perry policeThe City of Perry will have a new head of their public safety department in early 2014.

Police Chief Dan Brickner has announced he plans to retire from the police department on February 1st.

Chief Brickner has been with the Perry PD since 1994, making his end date just a few months short of his 20 year of service milestone.  He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is something he has been thinking about for some time.  He notes that by that time he will have maxed out his pension contribution, so he thought this is a good time to start looking into doing something new.  Brickner says he plans to still reside in Perry and is looking forward to the next chapter.

Mayor Jay Pattee says Brickner’s resignation notice was “kind of a surprise” and the City owes Dan a great debt has he has been a great chief for a lot of years, some of which were very challenging for the department.

Going forward, Pattee says he hopes they can look at an arrangement to use the human resources they have, find a couple new hires and keep up with the great standard that was set by Chief Brickner.
