The quarterfinal round of the Iowa High School football playoffs were held around the state last night. In a battle of Bulldogs, number 7 Van Meter was a 21-0 winner over #10 Ogden in a Class 1A contest. VM plays on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1:05 p.m. vs. #3 St. Edmond (Ft. Dodge) inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls in the semifinals in a battle of 12-0 teams.
In 2A, Kuemper Catholic improved to 12-0 with a 42-0 victory over unranked Gilbert. The #1 ranked Knights face #8 Sioux Center (10-2) on Sat., Nov. 16 at 4:05 p.m. in the semifinals. Kuemper Catholic won their district and defeated Greene County (Jefferson) in week 5.
Harlan has more state football titles than any Iowa high school, but the Cyclones, ranked #7, lost 31-0 to #1 Bishop Heelan of Sioux City in a 3A quarterfinal on Friday night. Harlan won their district and defeated both ADM (Adel) and Perry along the way.
In eight-player football, #4 Adair-Casey advanced to the semifinals. The Bomber were 65-26 winners over unranked Wayne (Corydon) on Friday night. Next up for A-C is a Thursday, Nov. 14 semifinal at 9:05 a.m. vs. Don Bosco (Gilbertville). A-C is 12-0, as is #1 ranked Don Bosco.
