Everyone is invited to learn how to use an old tool to create fire this weekend in Dallas County.
The conservation board is hosting a Fire By Friction program Sunday at the Kuehn Conservation Area.
Participants will learn how about the ancient skill of using a bow drill to create a fire. Museum curator Pete Malmberg says it’s actually not as difficult as it might sound.
“Now there’s a lot of ways to start fires. The bow drill, once you get used to it, is one of the easier ones. I’ve tried before with a single stick… and that is really hard, it just tears your hands up” says Malmberg.
The event takes place from noon to 2pm Sunday.
The cost to attend is $5 to cover the cost of materials. Pre-registration is required, to sign up call 465-3577.
