While this past Saturday, known across the country as “Small Business Saturday,” was a popular day for people to support local small businesses that are so crucial to our local economies, Guthrie Center has decided to make this coming Saturday its day to promote local shopping.
Jen Policky with Guthrie Center’s Chamber of Commerce Christmas Committee has been heading the effort to get local businesses to offer deals as a means to promote the town’s “Shop Local” extravaganza this Saturday, and to this point, her effort has been very successful.
“We are just so excited and ready to go with this. We have a lot of vendors and crafters that are going to be down in the Activity Center–we anticipate somewhere between 15 and 20 vendor booths down there… they’re going to be doing ‘cash and carry’ sales. We (also) have dropping your kids off at the library from 9am to noon. The kids are going to make little ornament frames to put their pictures in that they get with Mr. and Mrs. Clause that we’ll be taking for them. The idea is that you can bring the kids to the library while you go and shop and take in all the great sales that are going on.”
Policky adds that at least 10 local retail shops in Guthrie Center have also signed up to offer sales on Saturday.
If any business owners would like to participate in the “Shop Local” sales day, or if anyone would like to volunteer with the kids at the library, feel free to get in contact with Policky by calling her at 641-332-2263.
