The ADM boys’ basketball team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 70-63 win over Newton on the road last night.
The Tigers led by eleven at halftime before the Cardinals went on a run early in the second half, and the rest of the contest was a “wild, back-and-forth” affair according to head coach Aaron Mager.
ADM led for much of the night until Newton took the lead at 63-62 with just under two minutes remaining, but the Tigers locked down on the defensive end and went on an 8-0 run to end the ballgame. In that stretch, forward Grant Goeden had a steal and easy lay-up, and point guard Logan Essy hit two clutch free throws to seal the win.
Three Tigers’ players scored in double figures against Newton, with Goeden leading the way with 18. Jacob Hardy chipped in 15 while Essy contributed 14 points.
Coach Mager’s club will be back on the floor Friday night at home against Carroll following the conclusion of the girls’ varsity contest.
