perry logoThe City of Perry has agreed to put money into capital improvements at the Perry Municipal Airport, if federal or state grants are awarded.

The fiscal year 2015 five year Airport Capital Improvement Program plan was approved by the Council recently, certifying that a local match is available for the proposed 2015 project if money is awarded to the city.

City Clerk Corey Eastman says the five year plan needs to be approved annually and they’re hoping that the next proposed project gets funded.

“This five year plan includes a rehab of the current runway.  So we’re kind of excited for that, hopefully that moves forward through the (Federal Aviation Administration).  We were kind of held up with the furlough and the shutdown of the federal government but we’re hoping everything gets back on track” says Eastman.

If approved, 90 percent of the runway 14/32 reconstruction project would be funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, with the remaining funds coming from the city.

The relocation of the runway will require land acquisition, with the first step being environmental documentation, which would cost the city $8,000 for their portion.
