We’re learning more about the stand-off with police and eventual suicide of a 25 year-old man in Perry this past weekend.
As we first reported Saturday, 25 year-old Caleb Anderson of Perry was suspected of robbing the Minburn Raccoon Valley Bank branch Friday afternoon. That night, officers located Anderson’s vehicle outside his Perry residence and began to respond accordingly.
As always, Chief Dan Brickner says safety was their top priority.
“When we discovered that this man, Caleb Anderson was at this residence at 1807 Warford and he was armed, and with the events of the day with the bank robbery, our officers along with the sheriff’s office formed an inner perimeter in order to keep him contained to the house. And we formed an outer perimeter in order to try and keep private citizens from being victims of whatever might occur in that area” says Brickner.
Though they knew it would take additional resources to help control the situation so they contacted the Special Emergency Response Team to assist with negotiations.
In total, the standoff lasted about 3 hours and didn’t end the way they expected.
“We were at a point where we felt from what we had heard from negotiators that things were going very well and we had what we call a surrender team in place because we understood that Caleb was going to come out and surrender unfortunately some time after that he ended his life which is just absolutely not the ending we were hoping for and working for” adds Brickner. He says on behalf of all the law enforcement agencies, they feel bad for all of the family and friends of Caleb Anderson and wish there would have been a better result.
According to Brickner, no one else was in the home at the time of the standoff and no one else was hurt during the incident.
